With respect to our military our politician's job should extend no further than making decisions as to whether or not to commit our military forces.  If they decide to do that their job should then become to, without reservation, support that decision to the maximum extent possible.  When it comes to military operations those decisions should be left to those who train for a lifetime in such things, so long as they remain answerable to civilian authority.  Any other course of action will only result in a longer conflict and a larger casualty list.  Essentially, the politicians should tell the military leaders what the objective is and then get the hell out of the way.  Anything else is a betrayal of trust to our warriors, their families, and our nation.
