One of the worst forms of government is a pure democracy, that is, one in which the citizens enact and administer the laws directly.  Such a government is helpless against the mischiefs of faction. -- James Madison, (1751-1836), The Federalist Papers, 1787
(Before you disagree with that statement keep in mind that the USA is NOT a democracy, it is a representative republic.  That's an important difference to keep in mind, and a necessary one when the elevation of the individual is the goal).

Could the Democrats be pushing for a resolution condemning "genocide" in WW1 for the purpose of undermining our efforts in Iraq.  Before you decide be aware that the US government has already made such a resolution during the Reagan administration.

You may have heard the media quote retired Army General Ricardo Sanchez about mistakes made in Iraq and Afghanistan.  So far the media has only broadcast selected portions of what he said.  Read what he said about the media's reporting:  http://www.militaryreporters.org/sanchez_101207.html

Now read how the liberal Washington Post reported the same story:  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/10/12/AR2007101202459.html

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

- C.S. Lewis
