"To impose taxes when the public exigencies require them is an obligation of the most sacred character, especially with a free people. The faithful fulfillment of it is among the highest proofs of their value and capacity for self-government. To dispense with taxes when it may be done with perfect safety is equally the duty of their representatives." -- James Monroe (1758-1831), First Annual Message to Congress, December 21, 1817

On June 12 of this year the Supreme Court extended the "habeas corpus" provision of our Constitution to detainees in Guantanamo Bay.  THE COURT IS WRONG!!!!!  The only test that need be applied is to imagine that by judicial fiat the same protections be awarded to all citizens of Mongolia.  Are the protections a matter of citizenship, or a matter of locale?  Get it?  This is just one more example of the courts making law, where the Constitution clearly stipulates the job of the courts is limited to ruling up the Constitutionality of legislation passed by the Congress..... nothing more:  http://online.wsj.com/public/article_print/SB121331916222970351.html

Senior Citizen Logic:

An elderly man in Louisiana had owned a large farm for several years.  He had a large pond in back. It was properly shaped for swimming, so he fixed it up nice with a few picnic tables, horseshoe pits, and some apple and peach trees.

One evening, the old farmer decided to go down to the pond, as he hadn't been there for a while to look it over. He grabbed a
five-gallon bucket to bring back some fruit. As he neared the pond, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer, he saw it was a bunch of young women skinny-dipping in his pond.

He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end of the pond. One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave!" The old man frowned, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim naked or make you get out of the pond naked."

Holding the bucket up he said, "I'm here to feed the alligator."

Some old men can still think fast.
