"If you know how to spend less than you get, you have the philosopher's stone" -- Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanac, 1736

"Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship." -- Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard's Almanac, 1745

"In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress." - John Adams

LINKS:(a must read) In February 2008, David Walker, the Comptroller General of the United States (the nation's chief accountant) resigned because, as he said, "the dangers of deficit spending fell on deaf ears in Congress."
COMMENT - Dire predictions? Yes!  And not much hope currently in sight with our Congressmen's penchant for deficit spending.  The only sane course of action for us as individuals is to tighten our belts and pay off our credit cards, charge accounts, and car notes just a quickly as we can (and home mortgages too if we can), leaving only our month to month living expenses.  In the meantime we MUST all work to elect politicians who believe in limiting government expenditures to no more than it collects in revenue.

A good program on the oil industry and the products oil gives us.  Saturday night on the History Channel at 7PM Eastern.

Did you know?:  Exxon Mobil is the largest U.S. oil and gas company.  It accounts for only 2 percent of global energy production, only 3 percent of global oil production, only 6 percent of global refining capacity, and only 1 percent of global petroleum reserves. With respect to world petroleum reserves it ranks 14th.   Other nation's government-owned national oil companies dominate all the top spots.

About 75% of the world's oil reserves are owned outright by other nation's governments and are therefore not available to US oil companies in the world marketplace.

On the average, 15% percent of the cost of gasoline at the pump goes for taxes, while only 4% represents oil company profits.

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature.  That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
