"That the power to tax involves the power to destroy; that the power to destroy may defeat and render use-leas the power to create; that there is a plain repugnance in conferring upon one government the power to control the constitutional measures of another, which other, with respect to those very measures, is declared to be supreme over that which it exerts the control, are propositions not to be denied. …If the State may tax one instrument, employed by the Government in the execution of its powers, they may tax every other instrument. They may tax the mail; they may tax the mints; they may tax patent rights; they may tax the paper of a customs house; they may tax judicial process; they may tax all the means employed by the Government to an excess which would defeat all the ends of government. This was not intended by the American people. They did not design to make their government dependent on the States. . . .The question is, in truth, a question of supremacy; and if the right of the State to tax the means employed by the General Government be conceded, the declaration that the Constitution, and the laws made in pursuance thereof, shall be the supreme law of the land, is an empty and unmeaning declaration." -- John Marshall (1755-1835), 4th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court, McCulloch v. Maryland, 1819

"Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case; you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." -- Winston Churchill

COMMENTARY:  Is it the first obligation of our elected officials to represent the wishes of their constituents?  If the answer to that question is, "yes," then the Congressmen who voted for the bailout bill have told the American citizens that they know better than the citizens do what is best.

Try as I  might I just cannot escape the conclusion that the Congressmen who voted to pass the bailout bill don't care about what their constituents want them to do; what they think and want comes before the wishes of the public.

I think it is high time that We The People, without regard to political party, resolve to vote against any incumbent who voted for the bailout.  We must let the politicians know that it is their job to represent the people, not to do as they wish even if they think the public is wrong.

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature.  That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
