"Direct taxation can go but little way towards raising a revenue. To raise money in this way, people must be provident; they must constantly be laying up money to answer the demands of the collector. But you cannot make people thus provident. If you would do any thing to the purpose, you must come in when they are spending, and take a part with them. This does not take away the tools of a man's business, or the necessary utensils of his family: it only comes in when he is taking his pleasure, and feels generous." -- Oliver Ellsworth (1745-1807), Connecticut Ratifying Convention, 1788

COMMENTARY:  From a conservative point of view it may be that there may be a silver lining in the liberals winning the Presidency and increasing their numbers in both houses of Congress.  Whenever we hear a liberal saying how great it is that the election turned out the way it did we now have the opportunity to say, "if the Democrats do everything they promised during the campaign you won't be nearly so happy four years from now."  That will be true, and the Conservatives will have a golden opportunity, PROVIDED they return to a truly conservative philosophy.

A Mother's Letter To Her Daughter -

Hi Beebee -

Glad to see you made it thru the election events.

Your comments just got me to thinking about what has just happened in this election. Well I guess it doesn't matter much now what we think. For years I have feared then day when 'there gets to be more of them than there is of us'.  I don't mean Black either ! I mean those who are so self-serving and stand with their hands out to grab off their 'rights' and freebies. It has almost happened a few times in the past but we managed to squeak by and save the country from a land-office lottery. Once we have lost control it is most likely we will never get it back - at least in my lifetime. At my age just about all they can do is annoy me - at yours they can beat you down with rules, regulations, and taxes. The new Capital gains 'change' can strip from you everything that I have worked for and saved for your future.

Already we have lost a third of the value of our savings and stocks, now if ever we can sell them we lose in taxes. Thru the years we have managed, thru a great deal of hard work, self-denial, and investment  accumulate some real estate to pass on to you children. Now the proposed 'death tax' will rob you of  everything I worked for you to have.

I am sorry - so sorry. The way it turned out, we should have just worked enough to provide for your basic needs, stayed home with you more, not involved ourselves in community affairs, and lived for the moment with any excess dollars we might have had. The ultimate financial outcome would have been the same but maybe at least we could have been better parents. We were busy serving our customers, taking care of our patients, working to improve the community, sometimes to the detriment of our family. I guess we were just of the 'old school' where we were taught to be self-sufficient, save for the future, give back to the community , take care of your family and all would be well.

I really do not resent any group, black -white, young-old having a chance to succeed. Everyone deserves that but for us older folks, the rules changed in the middle of the game and because of this 'change' our world has been turned upside down. Our generation was built on the depression era of our Fathers and those fears and ideals we tried to pass on to your generation.

I do not mean to cause you anxiety or depression but these are simply the facts for thousands of seniors in the new and 'CHANGED' society. This transition to 'Change' will be most disconcerting. It is almost like suddenly finding out 'there is no God'. You lose everything you ever believed in.................  Love, Mother

Businesses got the message.  The day after the election stocks saw their biggest decline in post election history:

What Obama is facing..... and keep in mind he won by less than 2% of the popular vote:

World reaction to Obama win:

Oh jeeeez!  As you read this just keep in mind that the government does not have any money of its own.  Politicians just vote to take $1000 from you, deduct $500 for overhead and operating expenses, then give you back $500 and tell you how great they are for giving you a "stimulus package:"

As they have in the past ,when they have a majority, the Democrats will grossly overplay their hand, and that will mean a golden opportunity for conservatives provided they hold true to conservative values:

How to teach the fallacy of moral relativism:

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature.  That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
