"The first human subject and original of civil power is the people. For as they have a power, every man over himself in a natural state, so upon a combination they can and do bequeathe this power unto others, and settle it according as their united discretions shall determine. For that this is very plain, that when the subject of sovereign power is quite extinct, the power returns to the people again. And when they are free, they may set up what species of government they please; or if they rather incline to it, they may subside into a state of natural being if it be plainly for the best. The end of all good government is to cultivate humanity and promote the happiness of all, and the good of every man in all his rights, his life, liberty, estate, honor, etc., without injury or abuse done to any." -- John Wise (1652-1725), A Vindication of the Government of New England Churches, 1717

(don't you wish today's politicians held and practiced this philosophy)

COMMENT: Oh .. by the way, we learned yesterday why the consumers should pick the winners and losers in the marketplace and not the politicians. California Senator Diane Feinstein sent a little letter to some of her colleagues on Capitol Hill demanding that a share of any bailout money be spent on an upstart manufacturer of electric cars in San Jose. That would be Tesla Motors, and they haven't sold a single electric car at retail yet. Seems there are some cost overrun problems. Anyone want to buy an electric sports car for about $140,000?

Excuse me, but I have a question. If there are missing ballots how does anyone know who they favor???: http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2008/12/04/franken-demands-systematic-forensic-search-for-missing-ballots/

JUST FOR FUN

In many places around the world the traditional yuletime figure isn't Santa Claus, it is a figure called Ded Moroz (Father Frost), who is usually accompanied by Snegurichka (Snow Maiden). From around the world here's some links to pictures of those characters, as well as a few of Santa Claus. Hope you find them interesting:

TOONS

No toons today due to length of fun listings.

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature.

That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
