APRIL 1, 2009

The powers of the legislature are defined and limited; and that those limits may not be mistaken, or forgotten, the constitution is written. To what purpose are powers limited, and to what purpose is that limitation committed to writing, if these limits may, at any time, be passed by those intended to be restrained? The distinction between a government with limited and unlimited powers is abolished, if those limits do not confine the persons on whom they are imposed, and if acts prohibited and acts allowed, are of equal obligation. --  John Marshall (1755–1835), Marbury vs Madison, 1803

(Defining why the Constitution must always be supreme and immutable)

AN OBSERVATION - Attending a "tea party" and mailing tea bags to Congress may be fun and it may get some media attention, BUT, it isn't likely to instill much motivation into Congress to listen to the voters.  I suggest those attending tea parties start emphasing the word "recall" in their speeches and writings.  That word is much more likely to get the attention of elected officials than is the receipt of a few hundred tea bags.

If I'm corrupt.....:

The House Financial Services Committee, led by chairman Barney Frank, has approved a measure that would, in some key ways, go beyond the most draconian features of the original AIG bill. The new legislation, the "Pay for Performance Act of 2009," would impose government controls on the pay of all employees -- not just top executives -- of companies that have received a capital investment from the U.S. government:

WHY? - The auto companies are having hard times because of poor sales numbers.  To help ease the problem the government gives money to the car companies so they can build still more cars to sell to people who either don't want them or can't afford them.  Is that logical?  Am I missing something here?

It is already apparent that the new administration is a disaster:

It has already been evident several times and we still have almost four years to go.  Lord help us:

NOTED:  Barney Frank says:  "taxes in general will have to rise more than what President Obama has outlined in his exorbitant budget, although aside from the standard cry for bilking the richest Americans the amount of revenue generated by this alone won’t begin to cover the administration’s wish-list of spending programs":

CAP AND TRADE - It isn't about CO2 in the atmosphere.  The Cap and trade idea will allow the government to set permissible carbon emission levels for all CO2 emitting activities.  Those whose businesses emit higher levels of CO2 than the arbitrary standard will face government fines (read "taxes")  Those whose activities emit lower levels of CO2 than the standards allow will be have an emission credit balance and will be allowed to sell their credits to companies who have a deficit.  Al Gore and a few of his friends have set up a carbon credits trading exchange where the credits will be bought and sold.  As the owners of the exchange Al and his buddies will have to do nothing more than sit back and collect a percent of each trade as a commission and in the process collect truck loads of money.  In the end this whole cap and trade idea is a sham because after the trading of emission credits the companies of both the seller and the buyer will be allowed to emit exactly the same amount of CO2 as they did before making the exchange of credits.  As far as the environment is concerned there will have been no change.

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
