To upset you!  To anger you!
To show you enough of the abuses of liberalism that you will get involved.
To encourage you to contact your elected representatives and object.

“Take our politicians: they're a bunch of yo-yos. The presidency is now a cross between a popularity contest and a high school debate, with an encyclopedia of cliches the first prize.” ~ Saul Bellow

Perfectly describes our current administration, doesn't it?.

"By gnawing through a dike, even a rat may drown a nation."  - Edmond Burke

"The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country." – Milton Friedman

The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.

Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America

The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )

(OFFICERS) I, [name], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.

(ENLISTED) I, (name), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

Anyone who has served in the regular forces of the United States military has taken one of those oaths.  Now here is the reason I referenced these oaths.  Question:  if you are a veteran who affirmed one of these oaths then when were you released from its requirements?  You were never verbally told you were released and you were never given a document that released you from its requirements.  What then are the current implications?

If you are still on active duty the punishment is:  Dishonorable discharge, forfeiture of all pay and allowances, and confinement for 3 years.

Now here is the reason for bring this up.  United States Congressmen take a similar oath, but there is apparently no imprisonment penalty for violating that oath, which many of them do with great regularity.  The question then becomes:  should there be similarity penalties for Congressmen who violate their Oaths of Office?  If such penalties exist for our military people should it not be even more importatnt that our Congressmen be held to the same standards?  Apparently the only penalties avaliable for Congressmen who violate their oaths of office are censure or impeachment.  Is that sufficient?  Should they not be held at least to the same standards as our military?  In the usual course of events what a Congressman does has a much more far reaching effect that does the actions taken by any one serviceman.  Is it not therefore more important that they be held at least to the same, or even more strict, standards of behavior?

I think they should be.

Now then, if you agree, what should we do about it?

WOW!  After I wrote the above commentary I ran across this:

Seems like the Obama Administration doesn't agree with Lincoln.
Rather, they seem to have adopted the philosophy of:

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
