"When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators." ~ P.J. O'Rourke
"Our government... teaches the whole people by its example. If the government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy." ~ Louis Brandeis
"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for dinner. Liberty is a well-armed lamb." ~ Benjamin Franklin
"If you want to understand your government, don't begin by reading the Constitution. (It conveys precious little of the flavor of today's statecraft.) Instead, read selected portions of the Washington telephone directory containing listings for all the organizations with titles beginning with the word National." ~ George Will
"People often say that, in a democracy, decisions are made by a majority of the people. Of course, that is not true. Decisions are made by a majority of those who make themselves heard and who vote - a very different thing." ~ Walter H. Judd
"In a state-run society the government promises you security. But it's a false promise predicated on the idea that the opposite of security is risk. Nothing could be further from the truth. The opposite of security is insecurity, and the only way to overcome insecurity is to take risks. The gentle government that promises to hold your hand as you cross the street is the one that refuses to let go on the other side." ~ Theodore Forstmann
"By gnawing through a dike, even a rat may drown a nation." - Edmond Burke
"The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country." Milton Friedman
The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.
Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America
The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )
Our Founding Fathers were greatly influenced by a rather lengthly treatise on the subject of freedom, The Spirit of Laws, by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, published in 1748. The Democrats have been pushing their particular versions of the health care bills by saying it is an emergency to get them passed quickly. Oh really? Ask yourself this question. If it is an emergency and the legislation needs to be passed in a hurry why is it that we will start paying for it immediately, BUT, it will be four years before the coverage goes into effect, AND, it will still leave 29-million people uninsured????

The recent bombing attempt of the aircraft on an international flight to Detroit raises another possibility not being discussed in the major media. The question is why Detroit? The answer is likely because there is a larger percentage of Muslims there than in any other U.S. metropolitan area. A muslim on an international flight to Detroit would attract less notice flying to there than to other U.S. cities.
If that is true then we must ask why the bomber had no luggage and paid for his ticket in cash. The most obvious answer is that it was a test by Al Qaeda to see if our security measures could be breached and if the could then Al Qaeda would know how to proceed it another bombing scheme aimed at a more valuable target.
Since, and including, the muslim terrorist bombing of Pan AM flight 103 ten years ago EVERY SUCCESSFUL AND ATTEMPTED BOMBING OF A COMMERCIAL AIRCRAFT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN CONDUCTED BY MUSLIM TERRORISTS.... AND WE STILL AREN'T PROFILING TO CATCH SUSPECTS.
Know this! Al Qaeda has learned what did and didn't work and is now back at the drawing boards working on new methods to use to attack us.
How have we responded? We haven't! Not in any way realisticly designed to prevent future terrorist aircraft bombings. During the last hour of an international flight no blankets?, no magazines?, no rest room visits? Asinine! Asinine!!!!!..... and totally incompetent!!!!!
