To upset you!  To anger you!
To show you enough of the abuses of liberalism that you will get involved.

The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.
Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America

The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )

Our Founding Fathers were greatly influenced by a rather lengthly treatise on the subject of freedom, The Spirit of Laws, by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, published in 1748.  You can read it for yourself at:

There seems to be a movement in TEA Part circles to form a 3rd political party, or to associate the movement with a specific candidate or with the Republican Party.

The TEA Party movement has been effective precisely because those are things they haven't done.  Their very independence is the reason for their effectiveness.  Their independence means they are free to criticize any and all political partys and proposals and that is the foundation of their growing support and for their attractiveness to independent voters, which is a growing segment of the populace.

The TEA Party movement works in favor of conservative Republican candidates but that could be destroyed if the movement should ally itself with specific candidates, for doing that would provide the opposition with a target with which to focus their propaganda.  The semi-nebulous nature of the TEA Party movement is what makes it difficult for the liberal progressives to mount a targeted and cogent opposition.  So far the TEA Party groups have been stating their opposition in terms of opposition to liberal-progressive actions, ideas, and proposals, and not in terms of being for or against specific candidates or for or against the Republican or Democrat partys.  As long as they continue to do that they will hold the support of the majority of independent voters, and that is vital if conservative candidates are to win in upcoming elections.

The TEA Party groups should not form a 3rd political party.  We saw what happened when Ross Perot ran for President.  A TEA Party candidate for President would do nothing more than guarantee the re-election of Barack Obama by siphoning voters away from the Republican Party.  Conservative efforts must remain united if they are to win in the future.

Now, I'm no fan of the Republican Party because for the last few decades they have been little more than a rubber stamp for the Democrats and have adopted a "me too" attitude to get along with the left wing liberal progressives.  To change that it will be necessary to not only run genuinely conservative candidates it will also be necessary to totally replace all of the people at the top of the RNC.  If the Republican Party is to return to conservatism then those who allowed and directed its descent into liberalism must be replacedTHEY MUST GO!

It is quite possible, even likely, that the Democrats will try to get people into the TEA Party movement who will work to have a third-pary established, and then have that party run a candidate for President.  The TEA Party groups should remain alert for such proposals.  Because the TEA Partys have been so effective the Democrats will certainly do whatever they can to derail the movement; even send people to work from inside the movement.  Count on it!

Seems like the Obama Administration doesn't agree with Lincoln.
Rather, they seem to have adopted the philosophy of:

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
