To upset you!  To anger you!
To show you enough of the abuses of liberalism that you will get involved.
To encourage you to contact your elected representatives and object.

All of the following are quotes from John Marshall, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, 1801-1835

“The power to tax is the power to destroy”

“The Constitution is not a panacea for every blot upon the public welfare, nor should this Court, ordained as a judicial body, be thought of as a general haven for reform movements”

“No political dreamer was ever wild enough to think of breaking down the lines which separate the States, and of compounding the American people into one common mass”

“Indeed, in a free government almost all other rights would become worthless if the government possessed power over the private fortune of every citizen”

“The powers of the legislature are defined and limited; and that those limits may not be mistaken, or forgotten, the Constitution is written.”

“The Constitution is colorblind, and neither knows nor tolerates classes among citizens”

“No political dreamer was ever wild enough to think of breaking down the lines which separate the States, and of compounding the American people into one common mass”

"By gnawing through a dike, even a rat may drown a nation."  - Edmond Burke

"The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country." – Milton Friedman

The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.
Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America

The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )

Our Founding Fathers were greatly influenced by a rather lengthly treatise on the subject of freedom, The Spirit of Laws, by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, published in 1748.  You can read it for yourself at:

Conservatives commentators and talk show hosts who have been upset with our tax system have long been saying that the "bottom 50% of workers pay no taxes."  Well, yes, and no.  If the only consideration is whether or not the worker does or does not have enough deductions to erase his tax liability then that may be true.  BUT, that's not the whole story.

In the last year the average family's grocery bill has risen 25-30%.  That's entirely due to inflation, and since only the federal government can create inflation (because only the federal government can add to the amount of money in circulation by spending or obligating more than it collects in taxes and revenues).

It may be true, in a strictly mechanical sense, that the lower half of our population pays no taxes to the federal government, but it is decidedly NOT TRUE when the effect of inflation is added to the equation.  The increase in the basic cost of living caused by inflation hits lower income people much harder than it does those in higher income levels.  Inflation has often been defined as, "the cruelest tax of all," and that's true because it is a hidden tax.... one that cannot be seen as a separately listed item on cash register receipts.  It is hidden in the base price of merchandise and looks like the price of the merchandise has risen when that is not at all what has been happening.  Inflation has caused the value of our currency to be less valuable and therefore merchants demand more of it just to stay even.

Conservatives must stop saying that the bottom 50% of our citizens pay no taxes and instead start saying that,  "due to the inflation tax the bottom half of our citizens pay a larger percentage of their income than do people at the upper ends of the income scale."  To continue to say that the bottom half of our citizens pay no taxes plays into the hands of the liberal progressive agenda because it allows them to say they are the ones who care about them.

Conservatives must start saying that because of the inflation tax people at the lower income levels pay a higher percentage of their income to the inflation tax than do people at the upper income levels.  THAT'S TRUE AND CONSERVATIVES MUST START SAYING SO

Why Liberal Progressives foster envy and work to divide us (Thomas Sowell excellent as usual):

"The more evil or oppressive is a government or regime the more necessary it is for them to provide their constituants with an external devil on which to blame their problems:"

Liberal intelligence (is that an oxymoron?):

2010 vs 1955:

Seems like the Obama Administration doesn't agree with Lincoln.
Rather, they seem to have adopted the philosophy of:

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
