He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it. ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.  ~ Albert Einstein

The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference - they deserve a place of honor with all that's good. ~ George Washington

Non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as is cooperation with good. ~ Mohandas Gandhi

No man is justified in doing evil on the ground of expedience. ~ Theodore Roosevelt

There are two sides to every issue: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil. ~ Ayn Rand

Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. ~ Ayn Rand

He that is kind is free, though he is a slave; he that is evil is a slave, though he be a king. ~ Saint Augustine

The dread of evil is a much more forcible principle of human actions than the prospect of good. ~ John Locke

What is objectionable, what is dangerous about extremists, is not that they are extreme, but that they are intolerant. The evil is not what they say about their cause, but what they say about their opponents. ~ Robert Kennedy

The man who promises everything is sure to fulfil nothing, and everyone who promises too much is in danger of using evil means in order to carry out his promises, and is already on the road to perdition. ~ Carl Jung

The omission of good is no less reprehensible than the commission of evil. ~ Plutarch

Destroy the seed of evil, or it will grow up to your ruin. ~ Aesop

"By gnawing through a dike, even a rat may drown a nation."  - Edmond Burke

"The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country." – Milton Friedman

The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.
Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America

The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )

Our Founding Fathers were greatly influenced by a rather lengthly treatise on the subject of freedom, The Spirit of Laws, by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, published in 1748.  You can read it for yourself at: http://oll.libertyfund.org/index.php?option=com_staticxt&staticfile=show.php%3Ftitle=837&Itemid=27

DO WE HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNMENT?

If another person, or entity (like the government), can tell us what we cannot do, what we must do, and penalize us if we do not comply, then we must ask ourselves whether or not we are a free people, or are we slaves to the whims of an eletist group called "our elected representatives?"

Somehow I have always had the idea that it was the job of Congress to represent the wishes of their constituants, irrespective of their own personal desires, beliefs and philosophies.

On the health care issure poll after poll, even those of liberal groups and organizations, showed that 70% or more of all Americans didn't want it, but the liberal Democrat controlled Congress passed it anyway.  Didn't they know what the public wanted?  You would have to believe that they aren't very smart to believe that.  Sure they knew.  Their objective was, and continues to be, the acquisition and consolidation of political power.... and the desires and welfare of their constituants is of no concern to them.

Well, the time has come to stand up and show the power seekers in this country, as provided in our Constitution, that it is we, the citizens, not the politicians, who are the ultimate authority in this country.  It is time for the voters to make the ultimate statement regarding their authority and throw out ALL incumbents.  Wouldn't that be a rather drastic thing to do?  Yes, it absolutely would, and that's just the point.  There could be no stronger and louder statement made by the voters than to do that.  When I have suggested doing that to some folks I know they have responded by saying, "but that would leave us with no one who has experience."  My rejoinder has always been, "yes, but you have to ask yourself, could an all new Congress do any worse?"  So far I have yet to get a single response in opposition to that question, just a blank stare.  Well, maybe, if nothing else, it will start them thinking.

Our best course of action is to support the TEA Party movements for it is they, by their very independence, that is putting pressure on all political parties and segments of the political landscape to listen to what they have to say.  The proof of their effectiveness is the violence, lies, propaganda and infiltration we have seen from the liberals and progressives (there is more about this in the Links section of today's Links and Toons).

The next time there is a TEA party gathering near you go to it.  Better yet is to grab a friend who has never been and take them with you.  Better still is to take several friends with you.  Don't take no for an answer.  Tell them you will be by to pick them up on the way and don't take "no" for an answer.

How much do you and every member of your family owe on the national debt?

***********************************************************************

Seems like the Obama Administration doesn't agree with Lincoln.
Rather, they seem to have adopted the philosophy of:

OF THE GOVERNMENT
BY THE GOVERNMENT
FOR THE GOVERNMENT

RIGHT?

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
