To upset you!  To anger you!
To show you enough of the evils and abuses of liberalism and progressivism that you will get involved.
To encourage you to contact your elected representatives and object.

For this edition of Links and Toons I was researching quotations of the subject of "tyranny."  I found many, many more than I expected to find.  Even though I eliminated maybe 75% of them there were still many more than I would normally accept, BUT, those that remained are so germane to today that I decided to include them all.  As you read them keep in mind how accurately they apply to the Obama Administration. - GB
“Government's view of the economy can be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it” ~ Ronald Reagan
“Inflation is when you pay fifteen dollars for the ten-dollar haircut you used to get for five dollars when you had hair.”
~ Sam Ewing
“The first lesson of economics is scarcity: There is never enough of anything to satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.”
~ Thomas Sowell
“True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.”
~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

“I, however, place economy among the first and most important republican virtues, and public debt as the greatest of the dangers to be feared.” ~ Thomas Jefferson  (another truism we should be heeding)

“Politicians are pessimists: they've predicted 8 of the last 3 recessions”
“An economy hampered by restrictive tax rates will never produce enough revenue to balance our budget, just as it will never produce enough jobs or enough profits”
~ John Fitzgerald Kennedy  (still another truism we should be heeding)
“A creative economy is the fuel of magnificence”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
“Economic depression cannot be cured by legislative action or executive pronouncement. Economic wounds must be healed by the action of the cells of the economic body - the producers and consumers themselves.”
~ Herbert Hoover  (something our current administration obviously does not understand, or if they do, something that is subordinate to their political objectives)
“Every time in this century we've lowered the tax rates across the board, on employment, on saving, investment and risk-taking in this economy, revenues went up, not down”
~ Jack Kemp  (a lesson of history which the liberals ignore)

“Henry Ford was right. A prosperous economy requires that workers be able to buy the products that they produce. This is as true in a global economy as a national one.”
~ John J. Sweeney  (another ignored lesson)

"There are a sort of highbrow type of self-centered educated persons who form a sort of exclusive aristocracy here, there, and almost everywhere.  What their education has done is to show them how little others know.  They constitute an uppish class that sometimes mistakes itself for an upper class, and is proud to be known as highbrow, and as a highbrow is a degeneraic intellectual aristocrat who is the product of an education that should have made him a liberal.

But it has not done so.  Rather it shows that much learning can be accompanied by bad training, and illustrates and old conclusion that the most learned are not necessarily the best learned.

Sir Robert Falconer
University of Toronto
“A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague.” ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106-43 BC

Could there be any more accurate description of today's Liberal Progressive Democrats?
"By gnawing through a dike, even a rat may drown a nation."  - Edmond Burke
"The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country."  Milton Friedman
The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.
Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America
The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water
. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )
Our Founding Fathers were greatly influenced by a rather lengthly treatise on the subject of freedom, The Spirit of Laws, by Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, published in 1748.  You can read it for yourself at:

In Philadelphia during the last national election some members of the New Black Panther Party showed up at a polling place in military style garb and carrying night stick or baton type weapons and challenging white people who showed up to vote.  The US Department of Justice brought charges against the group and won a default judgement.  Now the DOJ has dismissed the suit:

Why was the voter intimidation suit dismissed by the DOJ ???  Nothing could be more destructive to our nation than allowing attempts to subvert the voting process to go unchallenged and unpunished.  Perhaps they thought the perpetrators weren't really serious.  Oh really???  Well, it is rather instructive to see who it is that the DOJ decided not to prosecute:

Seems like the Obama Administration doesn't agree with Lincoln.
Rather, they seem to have adopted the philosophy of:

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
