"IF THIS BE SEDITION, MAKE THE MOST OF IT!" (with apologies to Patrick Henry)

“Character is so largely affected by association, that we cannot afford to be indifferent as to who or what our friends are.” ~ unknown (for instance, friends like Frank Marshall Davis, William Ayers, and Jeremiah Wright)

“Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain but it takes character and self control to be understanding and forgiving.” ~ Dale Carnegie (character is not exactly a characteristic of liberals is it?)

“I admire men of character, and I judge character not by how men deal with their superiors, but mostly how they deal with their subordinates, and that, to me, is where you find out what the character of a man is” ~ Gen. H. Norman Schwartzkopf  (.... and liberals have a rather elitist attitude toward those they don't see as their equals)

“Most people say that is it is the intellect which makes a great scientist. They are wrong: it is character.” ~ Albert Einstein  (..... and character doesn't live off the work of others)

“Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” ~ Abraham Lincoln  (So true!  Just look at what it has done to  our current Administration)

“I love a hand that meets my own with a grasp that causes some sensation.” ~ Samuel Osgood  (Ever notice how limp liberal handshakes are?)
“You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence.”
~ Abraham Lincoln  (something about which liberals apparently cannot comprehend)
“Character is not made in a crisis it is only exhibited.”
~ Robert Freeman  (the lack of which has been exposed in our current administration)
“Good character is more to be praised than outstanding talent. Most talents are to some extent a gift. Good character, by contrast, is not given to us. We have to build it piece by piece by thought, choice, courage and determination.”
~ John Luther  (just remember, liberals are not builders, they are takers)
“You can’t talk your way out of what you’ve behaved yourself into.”
~ Stephen R. Covey  (unless you're a Democrat..... then you can blame everything you don't like on George Bush)

Conservative politicians, columnists, bloggers, and pundits have been making a HUGE political mistake.  They routinely make the statement that citizens in the lower half of the US income scale pay no income taxes.  The problem isn't with that statement per se because it is true.  The problem is that it leaves those in that lower half of the income scale with the feeling that government spending has no effect on their standard of living.

Conservatives should NEVER make that "lower half" statement without also including information about how government deficit spending causes inflation and decreases the value of the greenbacks in their wallets.  Conservatives should always include the fact that it is inflation that has increased the average family's grocery bill by around 30% since Barack Obama took office.

The textbook definition of inflation is: "An increase in the amount of money in circulation without a corresponding increase in the amount of goods and services produced or provided."  That's what happens when the government spends or obligates more that it collects in taxes, fees and revenues.  It devalues our money.  The result is that when we go to a store and go to the checkout stand it looks like prices have increased, when what has really happened is that the store is just asking for more of our dollars because they aren't worth as much as they were a year ago.

Conservatives should NEVER use that, "bottom half of taxpayers pay no taxes," statement unless they also include the fact that inflation hurts lower income earners, social security recipients, and those receiving government aid, far more than it does higher income earners because the increase in the cost-of-living amounts to a larger percentage of their disposable income than it does for higher income earners.

Remember, inflation happens when the government spends or obligates more money than it has collected in taxes and revenues.  In the end, deficit spending (inflation), has exactly the same effect as does direct taxation and that's the fact that should ALWAYS be included whenever that, "lower half pay no taxes," statement is made.  To not do so plays directly into the hands of the liberals and progressives by making it seem to lower income groups that deficit spending has no negative effects on them, only benefits.  Lower income groups must be educated to the fact that government deficit spending doesn't help them, instead, it hurts them most of all.

"There are a sort of highbrow type of self-centered educated persons who form a sort of exclusive aristocracy here, there, and almost everywhere.  What their education has done is to show them how little others know.  They constitute an uppish class that sometimes mistakes itself for an upper class, and is proud to be known as highbrow, and as a highbrow is a degeneraic intellectual aristocrat who is the product of an education that should have made him a liberal.

But it has not done so.  Rather it shows that much learning can be accompanied by bad training, and illustrates and old conclusion that the most learned are not necessarily the best learned.

Sir Robert Falconer
University of Toronto
“A nation can survive its fools and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly against the city. But the traitor moves among those within the gates freely, his sly whispers rustling through all alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague.” ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106-43 BC

Could there be any more accurate description of today's Liberal Progressive Democrats?
"By gnawing through a dike, even a rat may drown a nation."  - Edmond Burke
"The free man will ask neither what his country can do for him nor what he can do for his country."  Milton Friedman
The people must also be self-assertive. They must have the spirit of the old Revolutionary War flag: "Don't tread on me!" They must be vigilant against those, at home or abroad, in or out of government, who might wish to trample on their rights. They must be courageous and manly, with a sense of honor, so that in hard times they will stand up and fight, and not slink away slavishly so as to avoid trouble and danger.
Thomas G. West and Douglas A. Jeffrey, The Rise & Decline of Constitutional Government in America
The most important moral of all is that excellence is where you find it. I would extend this generalization to cover not just higher education but all education from vocational high school to graduate school. We must learn to honor excellence, indeed to demand it in every socially accepted human activity, however humble that activity, and to scorn shoddiness, however exalted the activity. An excellent plumber is infinitely more admirable than an incompetent philosopher. The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because philosophy is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes nor its theories will hold water
. --- John William Gardner (1912 - )

Seems like the Obama Administration doesn't agree with Lincoln.
Rather, they seem to have adopted the philosophy of:

Are you unhappy with the way many things are going in the USA?  If you are then let your elected representatives hear from you.  Our nation is a "representative republic."  In other words a nation where our legislators are supposed to represent your wishes, but, if you don't let them hear from you how are they supposed to know what things concern you?  Generally liberals are more group oriented than are conservatives, and tend to be more activist in nature. That's why things in our country have been becoming more and more liberal in nature, even though conservatives outnumber the liberals.  Remember, our nation only works as our founders designed it to work if the citizens participate in its operation.
